About This Blog
My name is Erin Kinch, and I write. I also read. Both will be important topics in my blog. I’ve written everything from literary fiction to newspaper articles, but my love is genre fiction. My short stories tend toward fantasy and sci-fi, while my novel efforts usually fall in the young adult genre (especially Y/A fantasy). My reading tastes are eclectic, but fantasy, sci-fi, and young adult have a big role. Movies and TV shows will appear here, as well. Many of the same writing principles apply similarly to movies, TV, and books, which I find interesting.
The name of my blog (”Living the Fictional Dream”) was inspired by John Gardner’s The Art of Fiction. I think that the ability to create a vivid, continuous fictional dream for a reader is one of the most important things a writer can aspire to do with her words. To me, reading someone else’s well-crafted story is the closest thing to actually seeing the world through someone else’s eyes. And, hey, let’s face it — reading a good story is just plain fun!
I earned a Master’s in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing from the University of North Texas in 2005, and I live in Fort Worth, Texas, with my husband, Stephen, and Tag, the sweetest golden retriever in the world (who is possibly telepathic). The newest addition to my life is my darling baby girl, Summerlyn, born in July 2009. Technical writing is my day job, and, in my small amount of spare time, I co-lead Panther City’s finest writing group, Writer’s Ink.
Thanks to Stephen for setting up my website and blog (and for the awesome randomized header graphics, made from his photography).

Just a short note to congratulate you on the sad but beautifully and touchingly written story REMEMBER? in the new EDF anthology. The pain and guilt are palpable. The regret, achingly pure and as sharp and clean as a scalpel’s slice.
I’ve been writing a long time but I’m new to Flash Fiction. In fact, the EDF anthology is my first serious examination of the genre. I’m very impressed with what I’ve found so far and I hope to try my hand at the genre sometime soon.
Keep up the excellent work. I will look for your stories in other venues as well.

Russ,
Thanks so much for your kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed “Remember?” Flash fiction is quite fun, and also challenging. I’ve enjoyed stretching my writerly muscles in that direction.
If you’re interested in reading other stories of mine, just click on the “Erin’s Stories” link at the top right of the page, and it will take you to a current list.
Happy New Year!
Erin
Through some security breeches on a different non-related web site, I was supposed to google my name and came across your blog.
Any relation to the Kinch’s that live in upstate New York, or for that matter, Columbus, Ohio? I’m curious now.
It’d be nice to know that someone at least distantly, distantly or somesuch related also writes.
P.s. I’m going to keep reading. We have the same interest in genre.
Hi, there! Nice to meet you. I’m actually a Kinch by marriage, but I know that my father-in-law is from New Jersey originally. It wouldn’t surprise me to find out there was some connection. I will have to stop by your blog and check it out! emk
